What It Was

Agarbatti Productions was a digital-first production studio built around a single idea: Pakistani culture, poetry, and art deserve a modern platform. At a time when most Pakistani digital content was either news or entertainment, Agarbatti went looking for something slower, more deliberate. The kind of storytelling that makes you feel something.

The name itself is an intentional choice. Agarbatti (incense sticks) are part of ritual, of memory, of the specific smell of a grandmother's house or a shrine at dusk. The studio was named for that quality of atmosphere. Content that lingers.

What I Built

  • Every piece started with a question about Pakistani cultural identity and how to explore it through the camera
  • Wrote the narration, interviews, and structural logic for each video
  • Handled shooting, directing, and on-ground logistics
  • Cut, colored, and mixed everything in-house
  • Managed the social presence across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter

Traction

Agarbatti grew to 3,000+ organic followers in the first week, with zero paid promotion. The content resonated because it was specific: it wasn't trying to be international or polished in a generic way. It was about Pakistan, made for people who love Pakistan.

In 2019, Agarbatti was pitched at Startup Weekend Lahore, winning Best Idea and Runners Up. The judges recognized both the cultural mission and the commercial potential of a culturally-rooted digital studio in a market largely underserved by quality content.

What It Taught Me

Agarbatti was my first experience building something from nothing, and it taught me that specificity beats scale. The more clearly you define who you're making something for, the more powerfully it lands with exactly those people. That principle has shaped every creative project I've worked on since.
